Summary

The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved worldwide bestseller Ready Player One, the "ridiculously fun and large-hearted" (NPR) near-future adventure that inspired the blockbuster Steven Spielberg film。

AN UNEXPECTED QUEST。 TWO WORLDS AT STAKE。 ARE YOU READY? Days after winning OASIS founder James Halliday's contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything。

Hidden within Halliday's vaults, waiting for his heir to find it, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the OASIS a thousand times more wondrous - and addictive - than even Wade dreamed possible。

With it comes a new riddle, and a new quest: a last Easter egg from Halliday, hinting at a mysterious prize。

And an unexpected, impossibly powerful, and dangerous new rival awaits, one who'll kill millions to get what he wants。

Wade's life and the future of the OASIS are again at stake, but this time the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance。

Of course, it wasn’t as good as the RPO, but it wasn’t that bad either。 Kept me entertained with all the 80’s nostalgia。 My favourite line from the book : Then Aech instructed me to stand behind the counter and do something close to nothing until Mr。 McGee told me several times that he didn’t like my kind cause I was a bit too leisurely”。 If you know, you know。 😜

2。5- reads like horrible fan fiction! Concept searching for a story! Too much exposition

This was disappointing。 Way too many details and not enough story。 Also pretty sappy with the love stories and SPOILER Sam just melting once Watts got into the quest。

This book is weird。 It ranged from a 1。5-5* book for me at different parts 。 I liked the overall story but it got lost in the details too frequently for me。 I’m not a Prince fan 🤷‍♀️and I’ve never been into LOTR so those parts seemed to slog on。 It’s fun to be reunited with Parzival and Art3mis and Aech and Shoto so i don’t regret reading it but it’s not as amazing as RP1 which might be one of my top 5 books ever 。

I feel like this is very much the same book as the first in a way。 Quests, teamwork, etc。 It got a little too in the weeds for me at a point。 It was entertaining and a quick read, if somewhat lacking for me in the end。

If the member-berries from south park wrote a science fiction book this would be it。 It was light and at times fun when I understood the pop culture references but ultimately unsatisfying。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I have mixed feelings on this book。 My biggest issue with the book is that I feel like we jumped through a lot of hoops showing how this kind of tech could go wrong/did go wrong and at the end it was just brushed over because the back up was broken so everything is totally fine now。 Everyone is happy, harmonious, and immortal。 It feels as cheesy as ending a book with "and they all lived happily ever after。" Forever is a LONG time and if the copies keep the same personalities I just don't see it I have mixed feelings on this book。 My biggest issue with the book is that I feel like we jumped through a lot of hoops showing how this kind of tech could go wrong/did go wrong and at the end it was just brushed over because the back up was broken so everything is totally fine now。 Everyone is happy, harmonious, and immortal。 It feels as cheesy as ending a book with "and they all lived happily ever after。" Forever is a LONG time and if the copies keep the same personalities I just don't see it being happily ever after。 People are still people, and even copies of people would contain flaws。 Also, there is so much focus on seeding a new Earth I can't help but feel that NO progress was made to actually improve life on Earth。 You don't have to worry about death anymore, you will be able to live forever as this "perfect" copy in this virtual "perfect" existence。 I don't even want to contemplate the suicide rates on this dying, depressing Earth after that gets announced。 Why live at all? Why continue the human existence at all? Or is that the real ending of this book? Human existence on Earth just dies out and humanity can exist in some parallel world far away (we hope) with a bunch of AI copies of people to guide them。。。。sounds great。 :-/ 。。。more

I loved Ready Player One back a decade ago! It was fresh set in the virtual online world and I liked the characters and of course the 80s references so I was very much looking forward to this one。 I happened to see the movie so I had a different "visual representation" of the characters in the sequel。 I really wanted to love this second book but it took me a while to get into it and that would only happen for moments。 I found myself not caring for the protagonist。 I was overwhelmed with all the I loved Ready Player One back a decade ago! I wanted to like this book after loving RP1, but I just didn't。 It felt like a very forced sequel with a ton of unnecessary filler that didn't move the plot forward at all。 Worth a read if you liked RP1, but don't expect anything close to the same level。 I wanted to like this book after loving RP1, but I just didn't。 It felt like a very forced sequel with a ton of unnecessary filler that didn't move the plot forward at all。 Worth a read if you liked RP1, but don't expect anything close to the same level。 。。。more

If you liked the first one, you’ll probably like this one。 However, I liked this less。 Yes, the geek-out factor still scores high, but I felt the storytelling took a step backwards, especially at the bookends。 The exposition and conclusion didn’t really do anything for me。 Just the nerdiness!

The story didn't draw me in as quickly and powerfully as the first book, but it got very good towards the end。 I find myself hoping there will be more to this series, if not as direct sequels, then as spin offs set in the same world。The only issue I had with it is that the author did the same thing as he did with Armada and used basically the same formula as Ready Player One, and while I love the 80s / 90s nostalgia trips, it sometimes feels like he's using that to carry the story, especially wh The story didn't draw me in as quickly and powerfully as the first book, but it got very good towards the end。 I find myself hoping there will be more to this series, if not as direct sequels, then as spin offs set in the same world。The only issue I had with it is that the author did the same thing as he did with Armada and used basically the same formula as Ready Player One, and while I love the 80s / 90s nostalgia trips, it sometimes feels like he's using that to carry the story, especially when you get to multi-chapter segments where they're just info bombing you about an obscure 80s movie or person。 It feels a little like filler。 It would be fine if the author just found a way to evoke that nostalgia without going into gruesome detail about the subject matter。That said, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and will immediately buy any future books he writes about the Oasis。 。。。more

A total 80s book。Great for 80s gamer, movie buffs and music lovers。 It will take you back in time。 A little too much in the description of things but enjoyable。

3。5 stars。 The first book is one of my favorite books that I've read。 This book was written years after the original, and I assume was written because of the recent hype for Ready Player One due to the movie。 And it reflects that in the writing。 The passion isn't there and the plot isn't as well developed。 However, I still think it's a good read and worth it because I truly do believe this is where the world could be headed and it says a lot about how society works and where we will end up。 The 3。5 stars。 The first book is one of my favorite books that I've read。 This book was written years after the original, and I assume was written because of the recent hype for Ready Player One due to the movie。 And it reflects that in the writing。 The passion isn't there and the plot isn't as well developed。 However, I still think it's a good read and worth it because I truly do believe this is where the world could be headed and it says a lot about how society works and where we will end up。 The book gets much better the more you read, the beginning was hard to get hooked on because it just seemed too surfacy。 But it builds up。 So it's definitely worth the read and I did enjoy it and will probably read it again。 。。。more

I really love this story, but the first novel is much better。 This one has way too much detail in the wrong places, that distract from the action, while also being really predictable。 Overall, I enjoyed this book and had fun continuing this story。 This is not Ernest Cline at his best though。 I do look forward to his future novels though。

Another great read by Mr。 Cline。 There was a few portions of it that I didn't care for, just because the particular genre/subject matter didn't interest me。。。but it doesn't make it bad writing。 That is my only reason for dropping from 5 to 4 stars。 I'd definitely read anything else that Ernest Cline writes。 Well done! This book picks up exactly where the first one left off so you may want to re-read book #1 so you remember who all the characters are and plot details。 Overall I enjoyed the book but the story doesn't really pick up until pg ~120-130 so hang in there if you're getting bored at first。 This one is another fun dive into 1980s nostalgia。 Some parts feel like Cline was just trying to wrap the story up but still a good read and a nice extension of the original story。 This book picks up exactly where the first one left off so you may want to re-read book #1 so you remember who all the characters are and plot details。 Overall I enjoyed the book but the story doesn't really pick up until pg ~120-130 so hang in there if you're getting bored at first。 This one is another fun dive into 1980s nostalgia。 Some parts feel like Cline was just trying to wrap the story up but still a good read and a nice extension of the original story。 。。。more

This is a purely emotional review that ignores the plot holes and various areas I thought could have been better。 Why? Because this book did exactly what I wanted it to。 RP1 was a book that helped me to start reading again, and even though I have no connection to the 80s or the video game culture of the book, something about it just makes me really happy to read the book。 RP2 gave me the feeling of reading RP1 for the first time again。 All of the excitement, anticipation and urgency came right b This is a purely emotional review that ignores the plot holes and various areas I thought could have been better。 Why? Ready Player One connected with me solidly, even though I wasn't keen to a lot of the older video games。 It was a marvelously novel (a-hem) story。 This one, be virtue of being a sequel loses most of that novelty。 Which made for a fair but not spectacular read。 The Easter Eggs were good when they connected but bad, bordering on boring, when they miss their mark with me。 I really loved the John Hughes world。 I forgot how many movies were his。 I loved a lot of them。 The Middle Earth world, too, was Ready Player One connected with me solidly, even though I wasn't keen to a lot of the older video games。 It was a marvelously novel (a-hem) story。 This one, be virtue of being a sequel loses most of that novelty。 Which made for a fair but not spectacular read。 The Easter Eggs were good when they connected but bad, bordering on boring, when they miss their mark with me。 I really loved the John Hughes world。 I forgot how many movies were his。 I loved a lot of them。 The Middle Earth world, too, was great。 Even though I was like Wade and couldn't finish The The Silmarillion。 But the one that missed seemed to go on forever。 Prince。 I respect his boundary pushing and how fervent his fans are。 But I just never got into him。 So many chapters just fell flat for me。 That said the world is a good one and methinks Ready Player One set the bar unobtainably high。 I'll be interested in seeing if a third book comes out。 。。。more

This book picks up right after Ready Player One with Wade and his friends now running the company they won。 The debate on the merits of online vs。 reality come to the forefront again as another challenge is built into the company and the system Wade controls。 How that challenge plays out gives the book its momentum and pushes the relationships in the book to progress or die。 The action sequences are good but overall I didn't like this novel as much as I liked it prequel。 This book picks up right after Ready Player One with Wade and his friends now running the company they won。 The debate on the merits of online vs。 reality come to the forefront again as another challenge is built into the company and the system Wade controls。 How that challenge plays out gives the book its momentum and pushes the relationships in the book to progress or die。 The action sequences are good but overall I didn't like this novel as much as I liked it prequel。 。。。more

Was disappointed with this one。 First book I've read multiple times and still rate it 5/5。 This one took awhile to get going, and I found it predictable and kinda forced。 Some of the quests I thought were cool, others were over too fast and one seemed to drag on forever。 3/5。 Was disappointed with this one。 First book I've read multiple times and still rate it 5/5。 This one took awhile to get going, and I found it predictable and kinda forced。 Some of the quests I thought were cool, others were over too fast and one seemed to drag on forever。 3/5。 。。。more

Wow, what a train wreck! I went into this expecting it to not be as good as the first, and that definitely held true! The first 90% was just repetitive and boring, and then it seemed as though the author decided the ending needed something different, and went completely off the rails, even worse than the rest of the book。I only finished it as I kept thinking “it has to get better”, but I was very wrong。
